John Danaher’s back attack system was the second instructional of the “Enter the System” series to be released (the first being the famous leglock instructional). Danaher personally recommends that people should start out with this instructional out of all of the Enter the System series before branching into the others and it is easy to understand why. The back is often a position that BJJ players can find themselves taking but then having a frustrating time finishing and Danaher’s instructional really provides great system for controlling and finishing from back control position.

The core of the system focuses on what is called the “Straight Jacket System” a series techniques and concepts that allows the attacker to isolate and remove the defending player’s defences. Thus allowing domination of the back position that translate to the high percentage Rear Naked Choke (RNC) submission.
To supplement the core “Straight Jacket System”, Danaher also provides multiple auxillary systems that allow for diffusion of attacks all across the opponent’s body if the opponent is able to defend the concentrated RNC attack. These systems include Ushiro Sankaku (Rear Triangle), Top Lock, Back Crucifix and the Cross Body Ride. The positions themselves lead to their own submissions or back to the back control position for you to have another run.
This flowchart is a lot more complex than the previous half guard one and has a lot more focus on the detail of each sub-system and series of techniques. This is due to the more descriptive and detailed orientated transitions between positions found in this instructional and I suspect of all the Enter the System instructionals compared to the Go Further Faster series.

As apparent, this flowchart is not meant to replace the viewing of the instructional, Danaher definitely goes into more conceptual reasoning why things are done as they are in the videos, and it is very beneficial to understand and take in those concepts. This is meant to be more of a cheatsheet/prompting tool that visualises the instructional and provides a supplemental means of consumption of the information.
I hope this provides people with valuable insight, I know it has for me constructing it.
